OH, CANADA! Gov Says ‘Tire Marks’ on Gay Pride Crosswalks Are Hate Crimes

The Canadian city of Waterloo became a laughingstock on social media Monday after the local government declared “tire marks” on a Gay Pride Crosswalk are a hate crime.

“We’re sad to report that the rainbow crosswalk on Willis Way was vandalised with tire marks. There is no place for hate in Waterloo. Crews have been working hard to clean things up and give the crosswalk a fresh shine for now, with a full restoration coming soon,” posted the official City of Waterloo account on Twitter.

“The rainbow crosswalk was installed to symbolize the City’s commitment to the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We celebrate the contributions of our 2SLGBTQ+ friends, family and neighbours and uplift the voices of the support organizations that educate us.”
