NORD STREAM 2 A NO-GO: Germany Steps Up, Kicks Putin Right in the Pipeline

As Russia continues its flex on Ukraine, moving the region closer to full-out war, many countries are stepping up to deter Putin from taking that final step. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stopped progression of the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline following Moscow’s aggressions.

The pipeline would increase Europe’s reliance on Russia for energy.

“With regard to the latest developments, we need to reassess the situation also with regard to Nord Stream 2. It sounds very technocratic but it is the necessary administrative step in order to stop certification of the pipeline,” Scholz said.

The Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, responded to the pipeline news on Twitter:

“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has issued an order to halt the process of certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Well. Welcome to the brave new world where Europeans are very soon going to pay €2.000 for 1.000 cubic meters of natural gas!”
