Back in 2018, the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh was the target of a mass shooting by 46-year-old white supremiscist Robert Gregory Bowers. 11 people were killed and six more wounded – including a few Holocaust survivors. President Biden remembers visiting the synagogue.
“I remember spending time at the, you know, uh, going to, uh, the, uh, you know, the Tree of Life synagogue, speaking with them,” Biden told Jewish leaders on Thursday, ahead of the Jewish holidays Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
One problem: Biden was never there, according to executive director Barb Feige.
“In a phone interview, Feige, executive director since July 2019, said firmly that ‘no’ Biden didn’t visit, even before taking office when he had a lower public profile as a former vice president and then-Democratic presidential candidate,” the New York Post reports.
The Republican Jewish Coalition says Biden is a liar for claiming he went, adding: “The ultimate irony: the person who actually did visit in 2018 with members of the Jewish community? His predecessor.”
