By The FirstPresident Biden spoke with reporters in Brussels Thursday to address the ongoing crisis in Ukraine; baselessly asserting that his economic sanctions were never meant to “deter” a Russian invasion.
“Sanctions never deter! You keep talking about that!!” claimed an irritated Biden.
His administration has been saying differently for months.
Vice President Kamala Harris: “The purpose of the sanctions has always been deterrence.”
Secretary of State Blinken: “The purpose of the sanctions is to try and to deter Russia from going to war.”
NSA Jake Sullivan: “The President believes that sanctions are intended to deter!”
Pentagon Spokesman: “We want them to have a deterrent effect.”
