By The FirstFormer senior Obama advisor David Axelrod split with many progressive members of his party this week, writing that “parents should absolutely be involved” in their children’s education and “politicians absolutely should not.”
“Parents should absolutely be involved in the schools their kids attend. Politicians absolutely should not!” posted the CNN commentator.
His followers pushed-back immediately.
“Parents are not always qualified to determine educational materials,” wrote one user.
“I partially disagree, David. Sometimes legislation is needed to ensure that kids of all backgrounds can get an education. That’s when political engagement is needed in schools. Meanwhile some parents can be equally destructive towards the education related rights of other kids,” explained another.
