Racaniello dismissed the claim that we could achieve herd immunity with 15-20 percent of the population surviving the illness, calling it “highly speculative.”
So how does the pandemic end? Here’s his answer:
“You either get one or more vaccines that can protect you or the virus infects nearly everybody on the planet… and then they get immunity,” the professor explained while cautioning that the latter ending comes with a lot of deaths.
