Jesse and China historian Gordon Chang believe these lockdown protests are as big as the Tiananmen Square protest was over 30 years ago. Gordon actually believes these protests are much more serious this time with the economic situation much worse in the country and the citizens calling for the complete removal of the Communist party. The discontentment is not limited to students as Tiananmen Square was; the situation is national with the Chinese people rising across multiple cities who are sick and tired of being oppressively locked in their homes.
