The big problem with the way we test for COVID

We should be talking less about who tests positive for COVID-19 and more about how positive they actually are, Mike Slater argued this week.

A positive result can represent vastly different circumstances for someone carrying the virus, he explained. The process of PCR testing involves the duplication of viral material and the more cycles needed to detect coronavirus, the less of it you actually have.

“If you only have a trace amount of COVID, you’re not infectious!”
