“Satan Is Real” Country Music Icon Dolly Parton Offers a Message of Faith

Country music star Dolly Parton offered a message of faith during a Christmas special late last week, offering a sharp rebuke of the prince of darkness. Parton offered her words during a live performance of her song “Go To Hell.”

“My brothers and my sisters: I’m here to tell you that Satan is real…he is real and walking around amongst us, trying to destroy everything that’s good and beautiful,” she said during her “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” special on NBC. “He wants to break our hearts and minds, destroy our dreams and plans. He wants to tear us up in little pieces, break us down and send us straight to hell.”

Although here mini-sermon was brief, it must have come as a surprise to many viewers to see such an open profession of faith on network television.

Though Dolly is best known for her songs “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene,” she has also been performing and publishing Christian songs for most of her career. In 2019, Parton teamed up with Christian artist Zach Williams to record “There Was Jesus.”

Parton’s sermon begins at around 1:20:
