BEAST MODE: Sen. Tom Cotton Blasts Woke Kroger CEO

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton lashed out at Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen–whose company fired two Christian employees for refusing to wear a rainbow symbol in 2019–during a recent hearing of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

The comments were made while the Kroger CEO was appearing before lawmakers to defend a proposed $25 billion merger between his company and grocery chain Albertsons.

After briefly questioning the CEO about the proposed merger, the Arkansas Senator told McMullen:

“This situation reminds me a little bit of the situation big tech companies have found themselves in in recent years. They’ve come to Washington because they fear regulation by our Democratic friends or action by the Biden Administration and they expect Republicans, who are traditionally supportive of free enterprise to come to their defense. And I’ve cautioned them for years that if they silence conservatives and center-right voters across the country, if they discriminate against them in their company, they probably shouldn’t come and ask Republican Senators to carry the water for them whenever our Democratic friends want to regulate them or block their mergers. So, I’ve heard a lot of questioning about that today, and I’ve read a lot about it in the news. And I’ll say this:

“I’m sorry that’s happening to you. Best of luck.”

Sen. Cotton’s ire stems from Kroger’s firing of two Christian employees from an Arkansas location back in 2019. According to the employees, they were fired after refusing to wear a rainbow symbol on their uniforms which they claimed contradicted their christian beliefs. Kroger settled the case back in October, agreeing to pay $180K for discriminating against the workers.
