WATCH: Oakland Police Chief Fires-Back After Officials Slash Funding for His Department

The Police Chief of Oakland, California issued an impassioned plea this week to stop ‘Defunding’ his department; saying the city is in a “crisis” and elected leaders response is to provide “less resources.”

“Saturday night, I went out to a scene of a young man that lost his life. A lady yelled out the window, ‘Do something about it!’ I’m challenged by the decisions that were made on Thursday around the budget, particularly for the Oakland Police Department,” said the Chief.

“We find ourselves in a crisis… We now have 65 homicides for the year. That’s a 90% increase compared to last year. Our shootings are up over 70% this year. Our robberies are up 11% this year. Our car-jackings are up 88%. We see clearly that crime is out of control in the city of Oakland. Our response was for less police resources,” he added.
