By The FirstNew York City art professor Shellyne Rodriguez has been dismissed from her position at Hunter College following a machete threat against New York Post reporter Reuven Fenton. The incident occurred when Fenton approached Rodriguez at her Bronx residence to inquire about a viral video that had caused a stir earlier this month.
The viral footage showed Rodriguez, 45, confronting a group of pro-life students at the college, grabbing their leaflets, and swearing at them. When Fenton and a photographer visited to ask about the incident, a second video captured Rodriguez threatening to “chop up” Fenton. She then opened the door, put the machete’s blade against his neck, and aggressively demanded he leave her premises.
The encounter didn’t end at her doorstep, as she pursued Fenton and his colleague, machete still in hand, as they retreated from her property. The tense incident led to swift action by Hunter College.
“Hunter College strongly condemns the unacceptable actions of Shellyne Rodriguez, and has taken immediate action,” Vince DiMiceli, a spokesperson for the college, declared. “Rodriguez has been relieved of her duties at Hunter College effective immediately, and will not be returning to teach at the school.”
Rodriguez now faces more than unemployment. According to the NYPD, she is under investigation for her actions.
