SUMMER OF CHAOS: Chicago Sees 77 Separate Shooting Incidents Over the Weekend

Including two mass shootings – with no one in custody.

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country – no legal gun shops or shooting ranges are allowed within city limits. But that hasn’t stopped the spike in gun violence.

Chicago’s NBC affiliate reported that “according to the Chicago Police Department, shootings in Chicago are up this year. There have been 1,402 shootings reported, a 15% increase over last year, and 1,715 people have been shot, an 18% increase.”

According to The Daily Wire, “Last week [Mayor Lori] Lightfoot admitted that the city could not handle the spike in violence on its own and appealed to the Biden White House for help.”
