Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Republican challenger Herschel Walker in the Georgia runoff election Tuesday, meaning Democrats will have a 51-49 Senate majority for the remainder of President Joe Biden’s first term.
“After a hard fought campaign, you’ve got me for six more years,” Senator Warnock told an elated audience during last night’s victory speech.
With 99% of precincts reporting, Warnock leads his Republican opponent Walker 51.4% to 48.6%.
“There’s no excuses in life,” Walker during yesterday’s concession speech. “And I’m not going to make any excuses now because we put up one heck of a fight.”
Walker’s defeat caps off weaker-than-expected performance for the GOP in the midterm elections, which saw the party lose a Senate seat.
