COLD SHOULDER: Chicago Police Turn Backs on Mayor Lightfoot After Young Cop Killed

The Chicago PD has had enough of Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

After a young cop was killed and another critically wounded on the streets of Chicago, members of the CPD turned their backs on Mayor Lightfoot as she addressed the press.

“Just moments before about 30 officers turned their backs on the mayor, Lightfoot tried to talk to the male officer’s father, who himself is a retired Chicago police officer. He clearly wanted nothing to do with Lightfoot, according to two sources who were there. The father excoriated the mayor and blamed her for what had happened,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Lightfoot, who advocated for cutting $80 million from the CPD’s budget in 2020, is now dealing with a spike in violent crimes in Chicago. 461 shootings were reported in the month of July – up 15% from the same time last year.

Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Catanzara told the Sun-Times, “The police officers’ decision to turn their backs on the mayor while waiting with the family on the 7th floor was significant. Turning their backs on the mayor was an excellent example of how the hundreds of police officers felt waiting outside the hospital. … They have had enough and are no longer going to remain silent anymore.”
