By The FirstAccording to a report from the Daily Wire, President Joe Biden is calling for a three-month pause on the federal gas tax to allievaiate some of that pain SMericans are feeling at the pump.
“The federal government imposes a gas tax of $0.184 per gallon of gasoline and $0.244 per gallon of diesel, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration,” The Daily Wire reports. “President Biden is asking for a suspension of the tax through September without interruptions to the $10 billion required to bankroll the Highway Trust Fund.”
“President Biden understands that high gas prices pose a significant challenge for working families,” a White House statement said. “Today, he is calling on Congress and states to take additional legislative action to provide direct relief to American consumers who have been hit with Putin’s Price Hike.”
The average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S. is currently $4.95; it was $2.39 when Biden took office.
Biden recently fired off angry letters to oil CEOs, refusing to take responsibility for the oil crisis and continuing to blame Putin in the process.
“There is no question that Vladimir Putin is principally responsible for the intense financial pain the American people and their families are bearing,” Biden wrote. “But amid a war that has raised gasoline prices more than $1.70 per gallon, historically high refinery profit margins are worsening that pain.”
